As a film photographer, I understand the importance of preserving the delicate and fleeting. In today’s world, where we can take thousands of selfies and post them across social media, we've lost touch with what truly matters. We've forgotten the care and intention once required to capture a single moment. While I appreciate the convenience of living in the digital age, I never take for granted the anticipation of waiting for the right shot, constrained by only 12, 24, or 36 exposures. Nor do I overlook the joy of picking up developed photos, eager to see if I captured that perfect moment.
Today, every moment can be saved, but there was a time when each shot had to be chosen carefully—and that deserves respect.
That’s why it breaks my heart when I see boxes of old Kodachrome slides at garage sales, often marked “free” or left by the trash. Those boxes contain hundreds of irreplaceable memories, now at risk of being lost forever.
